Who can join?
Anyone interested in pursuing a career in law or public policy and is looking for a supportive, diverse, family-like community! Kappa Omega Alpha welcomes all students to rush regardless of their grades or experience.
Why should I join?
There are countless reasons why you should join Kappa Omega Alpha. The fraternity boasts a part of a tight-knit group of students who care about social justice and are devoted to creating an impact on issues you care about. We also offer various professional development opportunities such as resume and LinkedIn workshops, professional panels, LSAT preparatory resources, and more. The organization is also a great way to network and receive valuable academic and career advice from peers and professionals.
What makes KOA unique?
Kappa Omega Alpha is the only pre-law AND pre-public policy fraternity on the U-M campus. As such, we have a consistent track record of success in helping brothers gain admission into the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. We also have extensive diversity in identity and career paths within law and policy (criminal, civil, corporate, cyber, immigration, environmental, criminal justice, education, reproductive rights, international, national security, etc.). Kappa Omega Alpha also has a supportive network for career paths other than law, including advocacy, politics, social work, and nonprofits.
Does KOA require dues?
Brothers contribute semester dues that support the fraternity’s resources and events. To ensure finances are never a barrier, we offer payment plans, reduced rates, and fully waived dues when needed. Standard dues are $150 for first-semester members, $75 for general members, and $35 for seniors.
Do I need to submit an application?
No. Only rushees that advance to the later rounds will be asked to submit a resume and cover letter along with a short interview. We offer a resume and cover letter workshop to ensure that all rushees feel supported and prepared for this portion of the recruitment process.
